Floor systems made from reinforced concrete look back on a long tradition in Europe. The rapid development of flat floors over the last few years has been quite dramatic. Design professionals for technical building services, in particular, had shown great interest in flat floors, whose smooth underside allowed them unobstructed routing for ducting, long before engineers started to utilise floor cross sections for integrating pipelines. As opposed to flat floors, floors supported by beams required an elaborate coordination of the openings within the cross pieces.
