In this lecture, the requirements set out in the European standards for the methods of testing steel and synthetic fibres and the associated conformity criteria will be discussed. Test results will be presented that represent the area of initial type-testing in the standards discussed. On the basis of the results and their interpretation it will be shown that, for the steel fibres tested, the requirements for the influence on residual strength are fulfilled even at lower dosages that those specified by the manufacturer. In the case of synthetic fibres, the requirements could only be fulfilled with the maximum dosage specified by the manufacturer.
