Besides exhibiting classic factors such as strength, processability and durability, modern concrete concepts include considerations of robust- ness and aesthetics as well. A significant feature with modern concrete concepts is that these factors occur in a very pronounced manner, as with self-compacting UHPC – one hundred years longevity – taking facing concrete class SB 4, for example. Advances in concrete admixture technologies have provided a major thrust in developing modern concrete concepts. This is also shown by the consumption of concrete admixtures, which has doubled in the last twenty years in Germany. The lion’s share of this development can be attributed to the introduction of modern superplasticiser technology.
