The Dove Holes block plant Buxton site is one of Cemex UK’s key production facilities for concrete products and masonry units. With a broad portfolio of solid and hollow blocks as well as concrete bricks, the plant has reliably supplied the UK market for decades. At the same time, requirements for efficiency, product quality, and delivery performance continue to increase. A major advantage of the site is its immediate proximity to a large quarry. This ensures a cost-effective supply of aggregates while also enabling the efficient use of significant quantities of “fines”-by-products from the screening process – within production. The existing production plant has been in operation for more than 30 years and has already been partially modernized. The production board circulation system has been upgraded to V-belt conveyors, and the cubing line was replaced with fully electric high-performance equipment including a modern control system. However, challenges remained, particularly in the areas of dated control components and limited spare parts availability. Against this background, a comprehensive modernization concept was developed and implemented in two coordinated phases.
