In North America, reinforcing made from fibre glass is being increasingly built into crash barriers. The reason is that the corrosion problems that often occur when traditional steel reinforced concrete is utilised can be avoided with fibre glass reinforcement. Fibre glass reinforcing possesses similar physical and mechanical properties to steel for construction work, but, in comparison, is considerably lighter, stable in aggressive environments and magnetically non-conductive – non-standard reinforcing for special cases.
