BEC Beton Experten Center GmbH has been successfully engaged for some years now in the field of product and process optimisation for concrete manufacturers. Developments in the economy and in society as a whole over the last few years as well as future trends have been affecting concrete and concrete product manufacturing. Major prominence in the business activities of producers is increasingly being given to questions concerning sustainability and raw material efficiency. In contrast to investment in machinery and technical equipment or expenditure for developing and launching new products and technologies, the activation of optimisation potential within an existing production process can be carried out in the first instance without additional costs. Despite this, its significance is frequently underestimated. Very few manufacturers undertake regular checks on their operational processes with a view to gaining a realistic picture of their production efficiency. Using examples taken from practice, it will be demonstrated in this article what potential can be unearthed by a targeted optimisation of production processes and products. Furthermore, it will be shown where this potential is hidden in detail and by which measures it can be made use of to benefit manufacturers with the aim of improving both the cost structure and quality of products and the efficiency of the overall production process.
